About Me
Are you an executive, physician, or physician leader who wants to engage complexity with more competence? Are you feeling stressed or overwhelmed? I can help you maximize your effectiveness.
You don’t have to tough it out. There is a way out. The root of the problem is that you've neglected your adaptive capacities. All those years of technical development have got you where you are, but they won't necessarily help you now.
I’ve got the solution. My Adaptive Development program for executives, physicians, and physician leaders is all about developing your adaptive capacities. We will start by examining your thinking and, using a coaching method designed by Harvard professors, methodically improve the way you make sense of the world.
I am an Adaptive Development expert.
My clients say that my coaching has changed the way they see the world. They engage complexity with fluidity. I’ve even had some who were burned out and brought back from the brink.
I am a healthcare provider who owns and operates a clinic in the Midwest. I’ve been coaching for over a decade. I’m a credentialed Minds at Work Adaptive Development coach, a certified physician coach with the Physician Coaching Institute, a certified Leadership Circle Profile consultant, and I am also a licensed psychotherapist with an MA in relational psychology.

Brad Fern truly helped me become a better leader. We worked together to identify and work on the barriers that were keeping me from become a better leader. Additionally, Brad is easy to talk to and has a great way of teaching the concepts that he uses for coaching.

Very positive experience. I think that the advantage of the ITC framework is that it helps you start with where you want to be and then works on how to get you there. The great thing about Brad was that he really cared about me as a person and not just as a physician or a leader. He met me where I was and then we advanced from there. The more work I put in, the more he progressed us and the more theory he introduced to get me to the next level. All along the way, he would check in and make sure I was in a good place. That matters. I plan on sharing my experience with my colleagues and trying to break any stigma around coaching. Like good athletes, we all can use some help to get us to where we want to be.

As a Financial Controller stepping in to a role with 8 direct reports and a large workload, I needed to learn new skills quickly. Through Brad's training I was able to develop higher levels of thinking complexity. That helped me realize my full potential as a decision maker and a leader. It also helped me to manage my workload while leading a finance team. I not only stepped in to the role with ease but I am now a top performer in that role with considerable impact on the company. Through his teaching, Brad was instrumental in expediting the skills and thinking complexity I needed that would have taken me years otherwise.

I was brought in as the director of a small technology group which had originally been overseen by a different leader. Our task was to bring a new product to market in the healthcare arena in a relatively short timeframe. Unfortunately, the group was not very cohesive and didn't play well with each other. This made it difficult to create the quality outcomes we desired in the time required. Each member of the team was hired for a different skill that was needed for the project and they were very knowledgeable and talented. They did very well independently, however, the problem was that results could only be achieved as a team, leveraging everyone's skill to accomplish the results needed. Brad was brought in to help the team come together collectively towards a common goal. He was excellent in creating trust and moving the individuals along the continuum of working in a vacuum to working as a group; each understanding their importance and role on the project. I could list multiple areas where his efforts made a difference, but I believe the largest impact was helping the staff understand when something wasn't working. Specifically, for them to take ownership in their contribution to the issue or problem. This was very powerful and made ongoing conversations much more effective. I was very fortunate to have been able to bring Brad into the organization when we did. If I had been with the firm earlier, I would have brought him in earlier. His work was appreciated by management and the staff themselves.
