About Me
When you've gone through a traumatic event or woken up to trauma from the past, it can be so hard to get clear on how to work with all the feelings around it. Especially when you're used to acheiving a lot & you can't "figure out" how to feel better. I help you pause in places you normally push through, so you can hear your own wisdom & your true needs & desires. With intuitive questions, I help shine light into the subconscious thoughts that drive your actions, so you see more & gain new perspective. I can suggest holistic practices that help you to feel more grounding, health, balance, intimacy & joy.
I come to this through my own journey. I used to be a journalist with NPR; a dream come true. I worked with fierce drive & ambition, and proceeded to get more sick & miserable the more success I gained. I went to acupuncture for help. I realized that the healing I received was filled with wisdom I needed in order to feel better. Balance, flow, connection - these were the real factors in wellbeing. I wanted to embody these things in my life.
I began practicing Eastern medicine - as an acupuncturist, herbalist, Reiki master, yoga teacher, shamanic facilitator, and coach. I specalized in trauma, and learned to translate the body's natural wisdom into practical guidance. I watched my patients transform & thrive. I trained heavily in leadership, communication and ancient healing modalities. I worked with a lot of veterans, who reminded me that a warrior spirit helps us find the courage and tenacity to alchemize our pain into wisdom.
All of this has supported me to show up with unconditional love, zero judgment, and easeful understanding. I always do my own work so I can be present with anything. I'm really good at hearing what's not being said. That leads to questions & reflections that allow you to discover new things about yourself or the situation you're in. It's an honor to share space with you & I look forward to connecting.

Athena has been more than a coach for me — she is my spiritual soul sister. I’ve worked with many coaches before but she is one-of-a-kind. She not only listens to what you say, but also what you’re not saying, on an energetic, spiritual, and emotional level. She’s the real deal — someone who’s done the work and has guided others successfully along the path. I feel very seen, safe, and enveloped when I’m coached by her. Not many coaches can see beyond the surface of your situation, and she effortlessly does so in the most compassionate, artful way. I highly highly recommend working with her.

Athena is first and foremost a wonderful person. While interacting with Athena I always feel welcomed, warm and open to share anything that is going on in my life. I never experience judgment . I have been getting coaching and healing (mostly acupuncture and meditation) from Athena Desai for almost 4 years. The experience has been extraordinarily positive. A photo I found on her Instagram page displays (to me at least) the qualities she has as a practitioner: caring but professional; scientific and spiritual ; positive and very determined; open minded yet focused; dynamic yet patient; brilliant but down to earth. She always says that her job is to "reflect” but she does this actively. And her biggest strength is listening. 60 minute sessions seem to fly by but, in retrospect, feel like they contained way more than an hour of healing and tools for a patient to take home.
