About Audrey Shanahan

I was awarded a Masters in Journalism with merit from Brunel University, London in 2009. Since then I have worked as a reporter for local, regional and national papers, and with magazines and other publications. I have lived and studied in Ireland and the UK, and spent three months in Hanoi, Vietnam where I worked as a sub-editor at Vietnam News, a national, daily English newspaper. I am passionate about writing persuasive, marketable content, as well as creative writing. My big love, however, is self-help and personal development and I have read more than a truck load of books from that genre. I know how to feel the fear and do it anyway, delay gratification and allow a man to retreat into his ‘cave’ when he gets a bit gloomy. I’m au fait with pretty much every strategy ever espoused by the personal development field of study, really. I blog for fun and have written and published a novel. I live with my long-term partner and our cute-as-pie baby boy in Clare, Ireland.

Those words from the iconic eighties Flashdance anthem are indelibly imprinted on our collective subconscious. But today, as more of us report burgeoning levels of job dissatisfaction, should we begin to question them? A few eminent thought leaders and scientists would posit that, yes, we should.
