How to Use Quora to Generate Leads for your Coaching Business
Quora is an invaluable resource for generating leads, particularly for coaches. When I first started out using the popular Q&A platform, I was quite reticent and didn’t expect much; however, as it turns out, Quora has proven to be an amazing source of high-quality traffic that converts.
In this blog post, I want to show you how you can use Quora to generate leads for your coaching business.
What makes Quora so attractive
Using Quora brings about a few different, very compelling results; for example, it can help you:
-
Improve your social influence: as a coach, you’re relying a lot on your name and your capabilities. Quora provides a platform where you can demonstrate your knowledge and skills and show that you know your stuff, whatever niche you might be in.
-
Create brand awareness: Quora is a big community, with people from all walks of life using it; by being an active user and answering questions regularly, it will help you improve your name visibility and become a well-known name or brand in your industry.
-
Drive high-quality traffic: when you answer questions on Quora, you can link to your own content, so long as it is relevant and brings something to the conversation (and it’s not overdone!) – for me, and many others, this has led to big boosts in traffic; however, the biggest draw of using Quora to drive traffic, is that the traffic is of very high quality, with long times spent on site, low bounce rates, and high conversion rates.
-
Make more conversions and generate leads: as you slowly, but surely establish yourself as a thought-leader on Quora, while also driving targeted traffic to your content and your website, it will help you generate more conversion and more leads.
Now that we’ve gone through what makes Quora such an attractive platform for marketers, business owners, and coaches, let’s look into how to find good questions to answer:
Finding the right questions on Quora
Searching for questions on Quora is quite easy – just use the search bar to search for specific keywords.
However, not all questions are good enough; some are too old, some don’t have anyone following them while others have too many answers already.
Not to mention, you should ideally create a system to find questions as easily as possible.
The first thing that I recommend is that you start following people similar to you, who are replying to the same questions you want and that you start following relevant topics.
To find topics to follow, use the search bar:
Once you’ve found a relevant topic, check it out to see how active it is: how many questions there are, how many followers, etc. If it’s active enough, then simply follow it – this way, new questions and answers will pop up in your main feed.
Additionally, this is also a good place to find people to follow; check to see what questions they’ve answered previously and, if it’s relevant to your niche, follow them as well.
Next, let’s look at individual questions and how to determine whether they’re worth your time; all you need to do is click on the question and scroll down to see its stats:
As you can see above, this question has no public followers, 654 total views on answers and it was last asked on March 28 – all of this makes it a pretty bad option. For one, even though the question is quite old, it barely got any views even though there are four answers and it has no public followers (if there were any, they would see your response in their feed).
Focus instead on questions that have plenty of public followers and even lots of views.
Another important factor to consider is the number of answers already posted. If there are over 10-15 answers already, yours is quite likely to get lost. If, on the other hand, your answer is among the first few, then you’re increasing your chances of getting the upvotes needed for your answer to be the first in the list (which usually gets the most views).
Be genuine, honest and always helpful
When it comes to answering questions on Quora, this is what matters:
-
Be genuine
-
Be honest
-
Be helpful and provide value
Quora is a pretty informal platform and when someone asks a question, they’re expecting an honest answer. This is why Quora has succeeded where others have failed (I’m looking at you, Yahoo! Answers) – because the quality of your answer is the most important factor.
Don’t beat around the bush and don’t write things that might sound good, but ultimately mean nothing. For example, if someone asks how they can get more clients for their business, tell them your exact tips for getting more clients – the exact tools you use yourself, the tactics you know that work, and so on. That’s not to say you should give away all your secrets – rather, try to answer the question to the best of your ability and don’t give answers like politicians do when asked by reporters.
Then, you will be able to link to your own content, your own website, where the reader can go to get even more valuable information or so that they can employ your services.
A few more useful tips for writing quality answers:
-
Make your answer easy to read: wherever possible, use headlines and subheadlines, as well as bullet points, to make your answer as easy as possible to read and even skim through. Personally, I almost always skim answers and articles first; this way, I can quickly tell whether it’s what I want to read and it will help me make my decision – and I’m sure I’m not the only one who does that.
-
Be human: Quora is quite informal, and good answers tend to sound more like a discussion between 2 friends (or rather, acquaintances) than a formal blog post. Address the reader directly in your answer and give advice for that particular case.
-
Use screenshots: where possible, use screenshots to support your case. This brings more value to the reader, it shows you took time to answer this question to the best of your ability, and it makes your tips and advice easier to understand.
-
Useful links: another way to provide more value is to add links to relevant sources in your answers – including yours (and this is how you get traffic and leads). However, don’t hide them; mention that the reader can learn more about the subject by reading this guide or article, for example, or by viewing a certain video etc. Use this same method for linking to your content and your website and promoting your blog – simply be as transparent as possible.
-
Useful tools: if the reader would also benefit from using certain tools, make sure to mention them in your article – it’s one more way to provide more value!
Quora Ads
If you want to get results more quickly and drive traffic and conversions, there is a simple solution: Quora Ads.
In a recent test made by the Social Media Lab, they tried to find out whether it’s better to send Quora ads to blog posts, or to landing pages. The results were quite impressive for both cases, although for different reasons.
The ads directed to blog posts got close to 1000 clicks and a conversion rate of 1.98% (19 free trials). On the other hand, the ads directed to landing pages got less clicks, 451, but they got almost triple the conversion rate: 6.87% (31 free trials).
The results of this test shows that Quora Ads are a great option when social media ads on Facebook and the like aren’t performing as well as they should.
Conclusion
Quora can be an amazing source of quality traffic and leads for coaching businesses; not only does it help with your overall social influence, but it’s also a great platform for demonstrating your knowledge and skills, and for driving high-quality traffic to your own blog or website.
