5 Ways to Improve Your Email Marketing and Increase Sales
This is a guest post written by Steve Brown.
Improving your email marketing campaign and boosting sales is easier said than done. But it’s not something you can’t do if you commit to adhering the best practices. Many companies today use social media to boost leads, while also using additional online and offline marketing tactics to be one step ahead of the competition.
The power of email is limitless, provided that you use the right techniques to reach out and engage your audience. As opposite to other marketing approaches, email is a lot cheaper (up to 33%).
Out of 120 billion business emails that people get in their inbox on a daily basis, how do you make your email stand out? Outperforming the competition might seem like mission impossible, but it’s not. Here are five tips to help you improve your email marketing efforts and boost sales.
1. Treat your email campaign like a dialogue
Adhering to the “batch & blast” method while crafting an email marketing campaign to boost sale is not a very smart approach. Since you’re not engaging in a dialogue with prospects, you can’t expect them to have an interest in your business. It’s very important that you keep the conversation interesting; peak their interest and find a way to add real value to it. For example, you can ask them to participate and share or like your content. Or you can appeal to them with a proposal: “Here’s 20% on our latest product. Tell us what you think.”
2. Make the content scannable
Keep in mind that most people these days are busy individuals. They get a ton of emails in a 24h interval, meaning that they only read those that have the biggest impact. However, if you want to have their undivided attention, your email has to be scannable.
Short paragraphs, subheadings, short sentences and factual information are criteria you need to abide by if you want convert them. If you want to send prospects a slightly longer article, it might be a good idea to include a “read more” link. Last, but not least, make your subject line as clean and possible. Be sure it’s easy to digest and to-the-point. To see which subject lines have the greatest impact, you should do an A/B test.
3. Stick to content your audience like and wants to read
There are a ton of email newsletter services that you can opt for to segment your list and make sure the right email gets to the right inbox. Why does segmentation matter so much? Well, because it allows marketers to target specific subscribers on their list; they can do this without assigning subscribers to specific groups.
For example, if you have a store and your store currently offers 40% discounts for 24 hours only, you should only target people located near you. Customers located in a different city won’t be able to benefit from your offer, so there's no point in targeting them. Make sure to send your clients content that is engaging. Find a way to make them want to open and read your email.
4. Ditch words that are clear spam triggers
An average of 100 billion emails are marked spam every day. Since most emails that are unsolicited promote illicit content or carry viruses, most email programs are extremely good at filtering messages that might attempt to scam and deceive readers. For your email marketing campaign to be safe, it’s best to ditch words that are spam triggers. These are “earn money online”, “big bucks”, “free money”, “winning”, “no credit check”, “MLM” and other cimilar buzzwords.
5. Design newsletters that fit your brand and mission
Services like Aweber and MailChimp, which provide excellent email marketing, enable companies to craft the most attractive newsletters. However, no matter how good a tool is, it becomes useless if your emails don’t provide value. And value can only be achieved when your audience is targeted. Every good newsletter should have your company logo embedded somewhere in the email. A good trick is to use fonts and colors that define your logo. This helps create consistency and trust.
Is your email marketing campaign struggling? It might be because your emails are not converting. A competent mailing house London should be able to help. Why not let professionals do what they do best?
