5 Most Common Mistakes that Coaches Should Avoid
When was the last time you watched a fitness video on Facebook? Did you just come across another fitness app promotion on Instagram? Are you being handed fitness coaching flyers while out shopping?
These are just some of the many examples that illustrates the healthy living phenomenon that we are seeing in the world today. With an increasing number of individuals paying closer attention to both their mental and physical health, it is no wonder that the coaching business is thriving and growing at an exponential rate.
As a result, an uncountable number of individuals are rushing to start their own coaching businesses, hoping to cash in on this trend. However, many fail along the way, simply because they did not consult a business coach and were not able to avoid making some of the most common mistakes people make while promoting their coaching businesses.
If you’re looking to become a fitness coach or someone else, fear not! We got you covered right here! Below are five of the most common things to avoid when starting your coaching business. Follow it closely and you might just be on your way to being a proud owner of a successful and well-known coaching business.
Start without a business plan
The Internet is full of information. Just read it. And how can you have a business without a business plan? Having a long term business plan is one of the most crucial factor in ensuring that your business is able to reach its full potential. Remember that while doing so, keep everything legal and recorded in written contracts that can easily be relied upon when needed.
Using technical terms
A rookie mistake that coaches should try to avoid unless absolutely necessary. Now, this does not mean you should not write an articulate promotion piece. Instead, what this means is that you should avoid using lingo that potential customers might not be aware of. Doing so will only alienate them dissuade your potential clients from choosing you.
Doing too much with too little time
Never overschedule or underpay yourself. This is a surefire way for you to lose your clients as well as your motivation to work. Doing so will result in you working nonstop for little returns. Even if you were to charge reasonable fees for your work, a lack of downtime could cause you to burn out quickly. Just remember, never short-change yourself!
Refusing outside help
This could come in various forms. Some coaches abhor the use of social media advertisements while others detest getting advice from others who have been successful in running their own business. All I can say to this is don’t limit yourself. Let yourself receive help, whether by way of advertisements or mentorship. Even better yet, find a business coach for yourself!
Relying on a single business plan
Avoid undermining your business prospects by focusing on a single type of service e.g. one-on-one coaching. While this could be extra beneficial for your client due to your ability to give them your undivided attention, it may stifle your business growth. Instead, consider alternatives to supplement your income! You can choose to promote other related brands, get involved in public speaking event for related talks, or even just expand your classes to include more clients per session!
Not selling a packaged service: Having a package option is a great way to retain your customers while providing them with a customised solution to their fitness problems. Doing so will ensure that your clientele remains stable and gives you ample time and opportunity to build a relationship with your client and connect with them. This will make them more likely to choose your services repeatedly or even introduce other clients to you!
